Microsoft Surface Duo 2: a benchmark unveils the specifications of the foldable smartphone

Microsoft’s new folding smartphone, named Surface Duo 2, should be unveiled in a few weeks, but we already know part of its data sheet thanks to a Geekbench benchmark.

While we already know the design of the Surface Duo 2 thanks to stolen photos that were revealed last month, it is now the turn of its characteristics to leak. A Geekbench listing found online earlier today details the specifications of a Microsoft Surface Duo 2 with the model number “surfaceduo2”.

The listing confirms the presence of the high-end Snapdragon 888 chip supported by 8GB of RAM and Android 11. Currently, Microsoft has not publicly stated whether it would deploy Android 12 after the smartphone’s release or whether it would sell the Surface Duo 2 with the latest version of Google’s latest operating system.

MICROSOFT WILL FIX THE BIGGEST DEFECT IN ITS DUO SURFACE

The new model will therefore be significantly more powerful than the previous generation, since it was only equipped with a Snapdragon 855, a 2019 processor. Microsoft would therefore have fixed one of the main problems of the original Surface Duo, because it used components that were not the latest at the time of its release.

Indeed, the Samsung Galaxy S10 was one of the first to use the Snapdragon 855 in March 2019. Microsoft had chosen to use the same chip, while the Surface Duo was unveiled in September 2020. At that time, many phones were already using the Snapdragon 865 for several months.

Thanks to the recent Snapdragon 888, Surface Duo 2 scored fairly well on Geekbench 5, achieving a single-core score of 1091 and a multi-core score of 3517. The new processor will also allow it to be compatible with 5G networks.

Finally, on the rendering of the smartphone, we also noticed the presence of three photo sensors at the rear, against only one on the original model. In addition to increasing its performance, Microsoft will also drastically improve the photo part of its folding smartphone.

For now, we don’t know when Microsoft will unveil its new Surface Duo 2, but the American giant could take advantage of an event next October to launch its smartphone alongside the Surface Pro 8 and other products.
