Galaxy Z Fold 3 Official: Camera Under Screen, S Pen, Snapdragon 888, Samsung Releases Great Game

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is now official. Samsung announced it at its Unpacked conference. As expected, we do not have a revolution, but a smooth evolution compared to the previous iteration. Two things to remember, however, the compatibility with the S Pen as well as the arrival of the camera under the slab.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is not a revolution. Recently announced at the Unpacked conference, the third model of the range wants to build on its achievements, while recovering technically. So we still have the same format, with a foldable inner screen like a book as well as an outer screen. However, Samsung still brings some interesting novelties.

So we have two Super AMOLED slabs, a 6.2-inch exterior of 2268 x 832 pixels (which passes in 120 Hz, unlike that of the Z Fold 2) and a foldable interior of 7.6 inches of 2208 x 1768 pixels (also in 120 Hz). The largest is equipped with a camera located directly under the slab. It is true that it is the least used on this format and rather than remove it, Samsung preferred to camouflage it. An intelligent solution and above all a first for the brand. Once the terminal is open, we have a full display, without unsightly punch.

This screen is also compatible with the S Pen Fold Edition (49 euros) and S Pen Pro (99 euros), which is larger and can be used on other terminals of the brand. Please note that they are not included in the smartphone box and must be purchased separately (excluding pre-order). The Z Fold 3 has no notch to store the stylus, as the Note before it, but Samsung sells a case that allows it.

In terms of technical specifications, we have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of storage. The battery, on the other hand, is 4400 mAh, which may seem a bit fair, but we’ll see how to use it. Finally, the photo module consists of three sensors of 12 megapixels, a main, an ultra wide angle and a Telefoto. The photo part was the weak point of the Z Fold 2 and the problem does not seem to be solved with this third model.

The design part has evolved well. We still have the same format, as we said, but with adjustments in terms of size and weight. Folded, the product makes 67.1 x 158.2 x 16 mm and unfolded, 128.1 x 158.2 x 6.4 mm. On the scale, we have a weight of 271 grams, or 11 grams less than the Z Fold 2.

For the visual part, we always have something similar with an aluminum back (this was only the case for the Bronze Gold model of the Z Fold 2) and the hinge remains the same. We note however that the photo module has slightly changed. It is not inspired by the S21 (damage), but adopts a harmonious vertical alignment. The terminal will be marketed in three colours: silver, black and green. Last point that has its importance: the Z Fold 3 is now IPX8 certified, therefore water resistant.

A beautiful smartphone on paper, therefore, which always remains very expensive. We remember that the first two models were marketed at more than 2000 euros. Samsung provides here a small effort, since the Z Fold 3 is displayed from 1799 euros. It’s less, but we’re still in the ultra-premium business. To obtain a foldable smartphone at a more correct price, you will have to turn to the Z Flip 3, announced at the same time and displayed from 1059 euros. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 will be available for sale on August 27.
